C&G were approached by Paul Munday from the Jobcentre Plus (JCP) in Chesterfield who had been approached by a local employer who was having difficulty in recruiting groundworkers for a project to the south of Chesterfield.
Paul Munday commented: “The employer was keen to recruit unemployed people for a project who understood about working on construction site and would achieve the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) accreditation, we had got the candidates but didn’t know of there were any providers with funding that could deliver a basic programme.”
Paul contacted C&G and arranged a tripartite meeting to allow C&G to meet the employer and agree the content of the course and how it would be delivered.
Paul Monday continued: “C&G indicated that they worked in partnership with Derby College and would be able to recruit and train unemployed people through the delivery of a fully-funded accredited construction training programme to enable them to gain CSCS accreditation.”
The construction programmes were delivered over the course of two weeks to a cohort of 10 learners. C&G were able to provide additional support and guidance to all the candidates, some of whom had health conditions or had been long-term unemployed, enabling them to complete the learning programme and obtain CSCS accreditation. Once the course had been completed, the employer was able to interview the learners and offered work placements to three local candidates.
Paul Munday summed up: “C&G have been very supportive and have kept us up to date with the progression of our customers. I look forward to working with them again.”
Rob Armitage from C&G added: “We were glad that we could support both the JCP and a local employer as well as making a difference to people’s lives. The funding provided by Derby College enabled us to deliver a training programme to unemployed people, enabling them to secure a work placement.”
